Opportunistic capital for story deals.

Who We Are

PT Finance is a focus area of Patterson Thoma Family Office and represents the firm’s opportunistic investing activity. We are experienced financial partners capable of funding operations that do not meet traditional bank or equity market requirements or perhaps a deal that has ‘hair’ and needs more work or time. Over decades of investing across industries, we also provide an experienced voice and believe in building relationships which leads to better outcomes.

We have a long history of creatively solving capital needs. As a family office we are an unconstrained investor. We do not have layers of decision-making committees allowing us to quickly underwrite an investment. We are patient capital partners capable of very long-term investment horizons.

Partnership Strategies

We recognize not every situation fits a traditional banker’s profile. We tailor each investment to align our capital with the Operator.

We have priced and led early-stage rounds when others wouldn’t.

We have stepped up when a partner leaves or a divorce has occurred.

We have lent on non-traditional assets in structures or timelines others wouldn’t consider.

We have provided Credit Enhancement for companies that need a little more flexibility with their lender.

We have provided time-sensitive bridge financings to help close deals.

Deal Sizes

We believe money finds good deals. While we often fund the entire investment ourselves, we also recognize the value of bringing in other investors or lenders with industry-specific knowledge to enhance the investment outcome.

We are often the first outside or non-friends-family investor in a company and can develop a milestone plan with the founder. Once certain benchmarks are met we often re-invest or source additional capital at higher valuations given the upward trajectory of the company.

Investment needs of $250,000 up to $10,000,000 will be considered.

Anchor Workforce Industrial

Patterson Thoma partnered with a local DFW operator, focused on industrial warehouse sites. Together we have successfully acquired, refurbished, and leased a growing portfolio. We continue to actively pursue new opportunities.

Adaptive 3D Technologies

In active support of a UT Dallas professor, Patterson Thoma was the first seed investor in a 3D-manufacturing company. As applications of the technology across multiple industries grew, Patterson Thoma participated in the Series A round, and in year four of the investment, advised the company through an exit via a SPAC (Ticker: DM). We maintain a good relationship with the founders and have subsequently invested in their next venture.

Compaction Technologies

Respecting the operator’s desire to maintain 100% of his company’s equity, our team structured a solution for the trash compactor manufacturer via the financing of their lease agreements with their customers. This accelerated the company’s cash flow and relieved them of servicing the leases. We provided $5MM+ in financing for the company and successfully placed the portfolio with a leading operator in the space less than one year after the initial lease purchase.

GTF Energy, LLC dba Railhead Rentals

Patterson Thoma partnered with another family office originally to provide growth capital for an extended stay housing provider in West Texas. At the request of the operator, we eventually purchased the entire enterprise. Investors have realized a 14% IRR to date and continue to receive monthly cash flow distributions from operations. Patterson Thoma maintains its role in operations, marketing, accounting, and investor reporting and compliance.
