Together we can acheive more
Dan Patterson is an experienced entrepreneur and investor with a strong background in leveraged buyouts and growth equity. His entrepreneurial journey began with the founding of Medical Weight Management, which was recognized by Inc. 500 Magazine in 1988 as one of the fastest-growing companies of its time.
Following the sale of Medical Weight Management in 1990, Dan established a private equity fundless sponsor firm that became known as Transition Capital Partners (TCP). In 1993, he acquired his first significant company, Sunrise Healthcare, based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with backing from Dallas-based family offices, primarily the Lamar Hunt family office. Over the years, many successful Dallas-area fundless sponsors began their careers at TCP before launching their own firms—several of whom Dan continues to invest alongside today.
In 2016, Dan entered into an agreement to sell his partnership interest in TCP to his partners, while remaining a significant investor and supporter of the firm’s activities. Since then, he has focused on the Patterson Thoma Family Office (PT), originally established in 1982, continuing to diversify its financial portfolio across multiple sectors. PT has served as Co-GP of five real estate funds and seven consumer credit funds. Additionally, PT maintains passive investments across a range of public and private equity and debt opportunities sponsored by Cresset Capital (formerly Crow Holdings / CH Capital).
Beyond his business pursuits, Dan is deeply committed to environmental stewardship. He has served as Chairman of both the National Tree Trust and the Arbor Day Foundation, and currently leads the Texas Trees Foundation.
An avid art enthusiast with a focus on post-impressionist American and European works, Dan also contributes to the cultural community as a board member of the Gund Gallery at his alma mater, Kenyon College.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Kenyon College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. His extensive board experience enables him to provide practical guidance to both portfolio companies and nonprofit organizations.
