Together we can acheive more
Dan Patterson is an experienced entrepreneur and investor with a solid background in leveraged buyouts and growth equity. His career highlights include founding Medical Weight Management—recognized by Inc. Magazine in 1988 as one of the fastest-growing companies of its time—and overseeing the acquisition, expansion, and sale of Texas Home Healthcare, which grew to be a major home healthcare provider in the Southwest.
In 1993, Dan founded Transition Capital Partners (TCP), introducing the fundless private equity sponsorship model in Dallas. He was among the first in the region to adopt this approach as early as 1990, with the support of family offices. This model treats each investment as a stand-alone opportunity rather than relying on a traditional fund structure, a method that has since spun out several fundless sponsors led by former junior members who embraced the model. Dan notes that while the absence of a unified fund structure means there is less of a built-in team cohesion for junior members, it also allows for a more focused, deal-by-deal approach
that can be mutually beneficial. In fact, some of TCP’s and PT’s most successful deals have come from working with sponsors who once operated within the firm.
Beyond his business endeavors, Dan has a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. He has served as Chairman of both the National Tree Trust and the National Arbor Day Foundation and now leads the Texas Trees Foundation. An art enthusiast with a focus on post-impressionist American and European works, Dan also contributes to the cultural community as a board member of the Gund Gallery at his alma mater, Kenyon College.
Dan’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Kenyon College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. His experience serving on various boards allows him to offer practical guidance to both portfolio companies and non-profit organizations.
